4th of July

Over the 4th of July weekend, Clint and I got to spend some time with both of our families. Clint went on a backpacking trip with his brothers to Big Creek, a place out in the middle of Idaho. I went to Portland where most of my family met up for the holiday.

Clint had a pretty exciting adventure in Idaho. He and and his brothers took a tiny charter plane to get to their destination of where they wanted to backpack for the weekend. Luckily everyone came back without any harm from the plane ride. They avoided an accident on the runway as they were leaving by only a few minutes. They would have been right in the way of the plane that was landing and crashed. Despite the near accident, this trip inspired Clint to pursue a new hobby...owning and flying his own plane.

In Portland, my brother Greg and his wife Shannon hosted a 4th of July celebration. We had a BBQ, pinata, and lit fireworks. It was a lot of fun and reminded me of home when we used to be able to light our own fireworks. Every year, we always have a pinata. The pinata for this year was a watermellon created by my very talented sister, Jen! Mostly the kids hit it, with the exception of my dad who cracked it open in the end.

Pinata? What a fun tradition! OK, tell Clint, he is finished gathering more hobbies. I could see Brent's wheels turning in the same direction. You think the near-death experience would mean something to those two!
